Modeling a failure rate for a mixture of distribution functions (English)
0 references
The authors study the monotonicity and asymptotic properties of the hazard rate functions of various mixtures. In particular, they find conditions under which an additive model of mixing results in a bathtub shaped hazard rate function. They also identify situations in which the mixture hazard rate converges to the hazard rate of the strongest population.
