The author studies the important problem of coating when a solid plate (for example) is removed from a pool of fluid. He derives a critical speed of withdrawal for coating to occur if this speed is exceeded, and for the thickness of coating layer. The consideration of the author is based on a matching procedure where approximated equations are used in the considered regions. In particular, a lubrication equation derived by \textit{P. G. Lopez} et al. [J. Fluid. Mech. 324, 261-286 (1996; Zbl 0885.76018)] is used in regions near the contact line when the contact angle is small.
