Random-sets: Theory and applications. (English)
0 references
The title of the paper is somewhat misleading: the focus is not on general random set theory and its application but on the well known fact introduced by Goodman 1982 that the so-called one-point coverage function (opcf) is a useful link between random sets and fuzzy sets (or possibility measures). Estimation of opcf is one way of choosing the ``right'' membership function of a fuzzy set. An application to time series analysis is presented. Here, the ``random set background'' is generated by the given (crisp) data points endowed with some kind of confidence ellipsoids and estimation of opcf can be used for prediction.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0966.00017].
