A plane problem on edge effects in a composite weakly reinforced by rectangular fibers (English)

The volume percentage of filler is assumed to be small, so the mutual influence of fibers in composite is neglected. Components of the composite are modelled by linearly elastic isotropic solids. Two-axial uniform tension of an elementary cell by a constant force is considered. Elastic displacements are determined from equilibrium equations under conventional boundary conditions at the cell boundary and conditions of complete adhesion between the filler and the matrix. The problem is solved numerically by finite difference Cholesky technique. Plots of normalized stresses are presented. Boundary effects arising due to the difference in Poisson ratios of composite's components are investigated.
