This book delivers exactly what the title says: practical algorithms. They are so practical that the actual C code is delivered on the accompanying CD. The following major topics are covered: intensity histograms; image transformations; image operations; edge, peak and region detections; multiresolution analysis; shape analysis; convex hulls; thinning; Hough transform; chain coding; line and curve fittings; line patterns; Voronoi diagrams; cellular patterns; nearest neighbors; filtering; and Fourier transforms. Each section contains a brief overview of the topic and an explanation on how to use the code.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThis book is definitely not for the beginner, neither it is for the student of image processing to use it as a textbook. The only way one can make good use of the material if it is used as a guide access to the source code. Nevertheless, the many demonstration programs make this work worth-while to have as a companion to standard texts. The software can used as a stand alone suite of routine, to build applications on top of the functions, or as a study aid to illustrate the concepts with practical computer examples.
