Aerodynamics of bee's wing motion in mode fanning (English)

On the basis of the improved method of discrete vortices and kinematic data obtained during high-speed filmings, two dimensional nonlinear computing model of bee's wing flaps at fanning of hive is created. The cases of a single bee, bee on the landing platform, and also single bee chain are considered. Instant integral, mean dynamic characteristics of the wing, as well as vortex patterns, velocity fields, lines of equal velocities, lines of equal pressure coefficients and instant streamlines are obtained. Analytical expressions for streamline function caused by discrete vortex in the channel, and also caused by isolated discrete vortex chain are obtained for calculation of instant streamlines. Numerical modelling has shown that in every flapping semi-plane the circulation of the flow, which carries air from a bee hive, is formed. The comparative analysis of the obtained results gives a basis for assumption that work of insect wings in ventilation mode, as well as in flight mode, is based on inertial-vortical principle.
