Finite-amplitude solitary states in viscoelastic shear flow: Computation and mechanism (English)

The flow of an inertialess polymer solution between two concentric cylinders is studied. The constitutive PENE-P equation and PENE-CR equation are used to search the isolated branches of stationary solutions in circular Couette flow. The geometry, governing nonlinear partial differential equations, and scaling laws are used in computations. The authors give a discretization scheme and present the results of computations for various parameters. The computed results are compared with experiments.
