The author introduces new functionals defined on the space of Riemannian metrics on a smooth manifold and studies the critical points of these functionals. In particular he exhibits new functionals whose critical points, under some suitable constraint, have constant sectional curvature. The results are obtained for 3-dimensional manifolds, and some geometric properties of these solutions are shown.
