In this volume, over 70 leading statisticians and quantitative methodologists from other disciplines reflect on those questions in vignettes, each of which discusses an important area of statistics. The vignettes highlight some of the most important statistical advances and outline potentially truthful areas of research. The purpose of this volume is to examine our statistical past, comment on our present, and speculate on our future. The articles are divided into four major themes: (i) statistics in the life and medical sciences, (ii) statistics in business and social sciences, (iii) statistics in the physical sciences and engineering, and (iv) theory and methods of statistics. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEAlthough the coverage of this volume is broad and the topics diverse, some statistical topics have been omitted. Design of experiments and survey sampling are two major topics, which are not covered. Multivariate analysis is also not covered explicitly. However, statistics is a broad and dynamic discipline and it is not possible to cover all the topics in a single volume.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThis is an interesting book and will be useful to young research workers. Each library must acquire a copy of this book.
