The main goal of the book is to introduce a wide domain of Data Warehouses System (DWS) along three perspectives: the architecture perspective, the development perspective, and the application perspective. Conespondly, the text is divided into three parts. The first one is first of all devoted to a description of an ideal DWS-architecture. The principles are stated that support an achievement of such architecture. Then are explained basic concepts like memory architecture of the DWS, layered architecture, middleware, security.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe second part is targeted on DWS-development and considers the data warehouse as a central component of the DWS. In the DWS-context are introduced and explained core concepts that are employed at DWS-database development: model, scheme, multidimensional data model, dimension, cube. Next follows an analysis of possibilities for a physical implementation of the multidimensional data model. In that context are compared the multidimensional and relational systems. Discussed are also data access security questions. Here is discussed the data access that at the DWSs has an analytical question form and metadata.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe third part of the book has the title application. The part bridges a theoretical representation of the DWSs and a real development of the DWSs. The development of a DWS is described as an application development. A typical feature of the application is its complexity. As partial problems at the application development are considered DW-strategy, project organization, project phases, software and hardware selection. Here are specified data -- warehouse supporting factors, also. The book ends with several examples from praxis.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEIn general the book is written from the data base perspective. The authors -- about 50 persons -- use very readable writing style.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThanks this style and its content the book is strongly recommended for the students of informatics, teachers and designers and research workes from the DWS area.
