Hyperbolic billiards form a rich and well studied class of dynamical systems with chaotic behaviour. However, there are no rigorously studied examples of billiards with coexistence of hyperbolic and elliptic behaviour. Here the author shows how an elliptical domain could be truncated to ensure hyperbolicity and ergodicity of the corresponding billiard.
