The author provides a \(3\)-group \(G\) whose mod \(3\) cohomology ring \(H^*(G)\) has an element \(\xi\) with \(\xi^3\not=0\). However, the existence of a \(p\)-group having a cohomology class of nilpotency degree greater than \(p>3\) still remains an open problem.
