The authors show that a certain solution to the ``Chinese Rings'' puzzle is the ``simplest'' in a certain sense. They note the connection of the puzzle to Habiro moves [\textit{K. Habiro}, Geom. Topol. 4, 1-83 (2000; Zbl 0941.57015)] and to Vassiliev invariants. They also discuss their solution in the context of a version of the word problem in groups.
