Stress concentration near the vertex of transverse crack in a boxed shell (English)

The problem is reduced to solution of biharmonic equation for displacement in a strip plate under corresponding boundary conditions, conditions at the shell edges and at the crack faces. Using the Fourier transform a singular integral equation of the second kind for the derivative of displacement is obtained. Its solution is sought in the form of a series in Chebyshev polynomials. An infinite algebraic system of Poincare-Koch type for coefficients of the series and a formula for the stress intensity factor are derived. An example is considered, variation of this factor when the crack approaches the shell edge is studied.
