Triaxial stress state in a plate welded by straight weld (Q2759523)

Equilibrium of infinite layer in the field of plastic deformations is considered. Equations of equilibrium and compatibility of deformations are solved by the Fourier transform. Expressions for residual stresses in the plate are derived. Plastic deformations in the vicinity of weld are approximated by polynomial expressions obtained from experimental data. Numerical example is considered, normal stresses are plotted. It is concluded that triaxial stress state is realized in the vicinity of weld and maximal values of stresses are attained at the middle surface of the plate.
