The author continues his presentation of the history of mechanics and variational calculus. He presented earlier parts during consecutive Schools of the History of Mathematics. He discusses not only the history of mechanics but also Polish textbooks and monographs of mechanics. The paper is an extended version of a talk given during the XIVth School of History of Mathematics.
