The origins are traced to a Polish translation of S. Lhuilier (1786) \textit{Exposition Élementaire des Principes des Calculs Supérieurs}, written during his sojourn in Warsaw, and to activity in the late 18th and early 19th centuries at the Jagiellonian University (in Kraków [Cracow]) and at Wilńo [Vilnius]. The greatest influences on the development of Polish mathematics through their publications were Lagrange, Lacroix, and later Cauchy, through the presence of many Polish students of mathematics in Paris. The French influence persisted upto World War 2.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0964.00033].
