Chaos, dissipation and quantal Brownian motion (English)

The paper addresses various, albeit interrelated, topics centered around the key-word of dissipation. Models of particle-environment interaction rely on the classical input, where chaotic degrees of freedom (a few enough) are responsible for the emerging dissipation. Next, a classical particle that interacts with quantum (of a classically chaotic provenance) degrees of freedom, is investigated. After reviewing linear response theory, random matrix theory links and limitations of the quantum-classical correspondence, the general problem of a quantum particle that interacts with an effective harmonic bath are considered. A list of open problems, concerning the quantum particle-quantum (chaotic) environment interaction, concludes the paper.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0972.00065].
