Experimental study of quantum chaos with cold atoms (English)

In this paper, the authors review their experimental work on quantum chaos (in particular, the momentum distribution) in a system of ultra-cold atoms that are exposed to time-dependent, one-dimensional dipole forces. Classical dynamics of the system exhibits chaos as the potential is highly nonlinear. The paper demonstrates the presence of dynamical localization in this system. The observation is explained in terms of the kicked rotor, a paradigm for classical and quantum chaos.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0972.00065].
