Basic concepts in the geometry of Banach spaces (Q2760167)

This is the introductory article of the ``Handbook of the Geometry of Banach Spaces'' (see Zbl 0970.46011 for the entire collection) written by the editors of that Handbook. Its aim is to make the material presented in the remaining articles of the Handbook accessible to a wide audience of researchers and students. It contains concepts and results that appear in most aspects of the theory of Banach spaces. Although the style is highly condensed, many of the results are presented with complete, though somewhat sketchy proofs.
