Electromagnetic waveguides and transmission lines (English)

The book studies relations between waveguides and transmission lines. One applies the laws of physics (Maxwell's equations) to some structures and one gets equations suitable for the electrical engineer in the language of circuits (voltage, current).NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEIt can be seen in the spirit of a generalization of the first results of Heaviside (1876) for telegraph cables. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEOne new tool introduced is the so-called reciprocity-based transmission line representation whereby usually one has to do with power-based representations. The generalization from the physical side concerns the introduction of anisotropy in the materials and also of bi-isotropy (chirality) to culminate with bianisotropy. The electrical modelling is difficult at high frequency where such characteristics manifest themselves. This will be obtained in the reciprocity-based formulation and generalized transmission lines equations (bitransmission lines) are obtained. They differ from the usual ones by additional terms leading to more complicated coupled partial differential equations.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEEffects of external fields and of junctions are studied.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEOne finds a chapter which reminds mathematical basics, references and an index.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThis book is of great interest to electrical engineers involved in the modelling of waveguides.
