Numerical experiments with hydrostatic approximation for Navier-Stokes equations in the frame of the projection method (English)

Problems of numerical simulation of flows of a viscous incompressible stratified liquid in deep reservoirs are under study. Hydrostatic approximation of Navier--Stokes equations usually gives good results in such problems. Nevertheless, it is supposed that, for more precise description of processes in the regions of water elevation and sink, it is necessary to use the complete model. The authors propose an approach which makes it possible, in the frame of projection method proposed by Chorin--Timukhin for the complete two-dimensional hydrodynamic model, to switch to the hydrostatic approximation without change of the numerical algorithm.
