Laguerre spectral method as applied to numerical modeling of viscoelastic seismic problems (English)
0 references
The article deals with a new algorithm based on using the Laguerre spectral method for approximation of time derivatives which, in particular, solves the problem of seismic wave propagation in a heterogeneous viscoelastic medium. Attention is focused on the first-order elastic equations written in cylindrical coordinates for the 3D axially symmetric vertical heterogeneous half-space. The authors note that the approach presented is an analog to the frequency domain forward modeling but the resulting linear system has a sparse matrix independent of the number \(m\), the degree of the Laguerre polynomials. This essentially decreases the computation cost of numerical calculation as compared with the frequency domain forward modeling.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe authors give some numerical examples for a model of a medium with a thin absorbing layer located above the isotropic elastic half-space.
