Fibonacci numbers and some of their properties are discussed. The following problem is in the focus of explanation: what is the set of points on the plane whose coordinates are successive Fibonacci numbers. This problem is also considered for general recursive sequences of the second order.NEWLINENEWLINEThe article is based on a lecture given by the author for secondary school teachers in the framework of the ``International Soros Science Educational Program'' and is aimed at presenting contemporary developments in mathematics on an elementary level understandable for secondary school teachers and pupils.
