The author introduces systems of computer mathematics and explains that they (i) provide new facilities both for numerical and analytical calculations; (ii) have beautiful color graphics; (iii) allow for the preparation of electronic lessons and books with ``live'' examples; and (iv) are of great interest for education.NEWLINENEWLINEThe article is based on a lecture given by the author for secondary school teachers in the framework of the ``International Soros Science Educational Program'' and is aimed at presenting contemporary developments in mathematics on an elementary level understandable for secondary school teachers and pupils.
