The author discusses a priori analysis of a possible structure of the bifurcation boundaries in the parameter space as applied to the known stationary modes of a system motion. In some cases, such an approach allows him to predict potential emergencies, reveal new, previously unknown, modes and elaborate effective algorithms to control the system. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe article is based on a lecture given by the author for secondary school teachers in the framework of the ``International Soros Science Educational Program'' and is aimed at presenting contemporary developments in mathematics on an elementary level understandable for secondary school teachers and pupils.
