The book combines relational databases with script languages on Web servers and presents a wide variety of Internet applications. After a short introduction into database design, SQL is described, especially the Select command. The next chapters deal with the script language PHP. All applications are developed in MySQL and PHP - both Open Source Software. Subjects are guest books in the Internet, a survey in the Web, a product catalogue, content management systems, a discussion forum via Internet, a system for failure analysis and failure tracking and a shop system. Various appendices close the book. All examples are contained on a CD ROM with additional installation software for the Apache Web Server, MySQL, PHP and some helpful tools. The strength of the book consists in an easy to understand introduction and having quick success. It suffers from certain weaknesses and misprints in the translation. Furthermore the introduction into database design is too short, and the first and third normal form are mixed up. In order to install the examples, some experience with HTML and SQL is helpful.
