This book results from a series of lectures given by the author to a group of adolescents. The main objective, as stated by the author, is to show that mathematics can be an amusing and not a frightening subject! He uses very interesting problems, some not normally treated in books of this level. The range of questions is quite broad. The book raises challenging questions, which invites the reader to look for new directions and further reading. It is written with care, touching a variety of areas, and punctuated with very interesting historical notes. The author claims that this is a book that fits into the category of Recreational Mathematics. Indeed, it is such a book. But I would add that it is an example of the right way of presenting mathematics to a number of students with the potential to grow, and who are, sometimes, restrained in their creativity by the fact that classes are conducted to satisfy the average student. The result is an interesting and very useful book, both for students and teachers.
