The interaction of cracks in brittle fracture. Force and energy approaches (English)
0 references
The author investigates a two-dimensional homogeneous body weakened by a family of rectangular cracks. The cracks begin to develop if at least one crack is not in equilibrium during the loading process. Fracture criteria are written as variational inequalities. The author studies the crack growth problem, and discusses the similarity and differences between Irwin and Griffith's criteria in both ordinary and refined formulations. Some examples are presented.
