The authors discuss a generalization of results by \textit{Yu. G. Gubarev} and \textit{S. S. Kovylina} [Prikl. Mekh. Tekh. Fiz. 40, No. 2, 148-155 (1999); translation in J. Appl. Mech. Tech. Phys. 40, No. 2, 317-324 (1999; Zbl 0936.76023)] to the case of new magnetic hydrodynamical equilibria of plasma. It is shown that the states of rest under consideration are unstable with respect to small spatial perturbation diminishing the efficient potential energy. As example, the authors consider the state of rest of viscous compressible infinitely conductive medium in the space between two co-axial cylinders.
