Diffraction of scalar waves at plane apertures: A different approach (English)

The author presents a new integral equation approach for dealing with the diffraction of scalar harmonic waves by a hole in a perfectly reflecting screen. It is based on Green's function for plane screen problems. This function has a Cartesian representation and satisfies on the screen the same Dirichlet or Neumann conditions as the total field. The continuity of the total field imposed through the hole leads to an integral equation, which is applied to the diffraction at slits and rectangular apertures.
