This textbook is recommended for students of the third and fourth year. Some prior knowledge of phenomenological and statistical equilibrium thermodynamics is required.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe book includes a chapter about classical phenomenological thermodynamics, but the emphasis is on statistical thermodynamics. The chapter about phenomenological theory serves for giving an interpretation of statistical results. It is not an axiomatic introduction. Various applications of statistical methods are treated: Ideal and real gases, fluctuations, liquid structure and critical phenomena, Brownian motion, dynamic scattering.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEMacroscopic quantities are calculated as averages with the equilibrium distribution function: the canonical, macrocanonical or grand-canonical distribution.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe mathematical methods used in the book are elementary statistics and the method of Green-functions for representing the solution of differential equations.
