Einstein's lecture on the theory of relativity at the University of Hamburg on July 17, 1920. Prehistory. Consequences (Q2764575)

Based on material in several Hamburg archives this article examines the pre-history and the consequences of Einstein's talk on relativity theory in July 1920 at the newly founded University of Hamburg. Reich argues that the ensuing creation of a professorship for theoretical physics was triggered by that talk. The article focuses more than on Einstein's talk itself on biographical material concerning persons around that event, such as the mathematicians Bernhard Baule (1891-- 1976), and Paul Riebesell (1883-1950).
