The first part of this article contains tables of signs in some ancient languages for general words and phrases and for integers and arithmetical operations. The second part notes a few aspects of `formal logic', including Post coding, recursion, the \(\lambda\)-calculus and the Turing machine. Finally the author gives a few remarks on linguistics and the `formal description of biologicl systems' (where the pioneering efforts of the 1930s by J. H. Woodger could have been cited).
