Taut foliations in punctured surface bundles. I. (English)

The first description of all fibrations (over \(S^1\)) for a given compact orientable 3-manifold belongs to Thurston; the fibrations are studied by using perturbations and ``nearby fibrations''.NEWLINENEWLINE The author of the present paper gives another way of perturbing fibrations with non-empty boundary. Namely, she investigates the behaviour of taut foliations which are closely related to the initial fibration; such foliations realize a non-empty interval of \(\partial\)-slopes. By using this method, one can obtain information about manifolds by performing Dehn surgery along slopes close to the initial slope. In the last part of the article, some generalizations of this method are given.
