A closed system of equations is obtained which governs the hydrodynamical interaction of a turbulent boundary layer with a deformable viscoelastic surface simulating cetacean skin. The closure hypotheses are generalized for the redistribution and turbulent diffusion in transport equations for the second correlation moments. The boundary condition approximations reflect the energy exchange between the turbulent boundary layer and viscoelastic layer through the deformed surface. The range of mechanical and geometrical parameters of viscoelastic coatings is determined as a function of the flow velocity where the friction drag can be reduced. The obtained numerical results allow to explain the friction drag reduction of hydrobionts.
