Polymer solutions in the conditions of wall-adjacent turbulence and the mechanism of hydrodynamic drag reduction (English)

The authors present results of experimental investigations of turbulent polymer solution flow based on polarization-optical measurements. A strong deformation action of hydrodynamic field to macromolecules in some zones of a boundary layer is established. It is shown that such nonlinear deformations directly make conditions for drag reduction. Some anomalous effects in the turbulent boundary layer are investigated.
