There is a class of Finsler manifolds for which the parallel translations with respect to a linear connection preserve the length of the tangent vector. These are called here generalized Berwald manifolds. The authors define a distinguished class of h-basic connections for these manifolds which are labeled Ichijyo connections. Curvatures, torsions, and other interesting properties are discussed.
