P systems with picture objects (English)

P systems is a recently introduced computational model of the generative type (similar in this respect to formal grammars) which was inspired by a certain type of biological computing mechanism. The current paper introduces two variants of P systems that act on picture objects (i.e., rectangular grids of characters) and compares the generative power of these devices with that of matrix grammars with various parameters.
