SQL: Access to SQL Server covers the fundamentals of Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL Server in an example-driven textbook style. The book is intended as a text for beginners, intermediates and practitioners for a self-study. It covers topics like SQL, relational database theory, stored procedures, HTML, XML, active server pages, and the administration of the SQL Server.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThroughout this book, which is written in a diverting style, many examples and screen-shots are provided. Especially the mix of theory and practice is very suitable for a good understanding of the covered material. Particularly the chapters on SQL are very detailed and supported by good examples. However, parts of the presentation (e.g., the chapter on database theory and normalizing) are too short and suffer from the absence of good examples. Some topics like entity-relationship-modeling are not even mentioned. To try out the given examples, it is useful to have at least a basic knowledge of MS Access or MS SQL Server. Even though there are a lot of screen-shots and examples, an introduction to the interface of the applications is missing. The usage of HTML, XML and active server pages is handled too short and would be hardly understandable for beginners of this topics. After all, SQL: Access to SQL Server is a good book to deepen your knowledge in MS Access and MS SQL Server and it's a good introduction to the special Microsoft dialects of SQL (JetSQL and T-SQL).NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEIn addition to the book, readers can obtain supplementary material like programlistings of used examples through the web.
