The article is devoted to the weak amenability property, that is also called Yu's ``property A''. Its relations with the Novikov and Baum-Connes conjectures are discussed. Necessary definitions are given in the paper. The main results are:NEWLINENEWLINE Theorem 6.1. Let \(X\) be a discrete metric space with subexponential growth. Then \(X\) has property A.NEWLINENEWLINETheorem 9.1. Let \(G\) be a discrete group acting on a tree, with finite quotients. Then \(G\) has property A if and only if the stabilizer of each vertex group has property A.
