This book starts with a 3-pages Preface by J. P. Hsu, who also wrote 11 pages entitled ``Remarks on the development of the Lorentz and Poincaré Invariance''. Chapter 7 is a reprint of \textit{Y. Z. Zhang} [Test theories of special relativity, first published in Gen. Relativity Gravivation 27 475-483 (1995)]. Insofar, Hsu and Zhang are also authors of the book under consideration. However, the majority of its almost 600 pages is composed from reprints of papers by other authors; so, it should been mentioned, that Hsu and Zhang are more editors than authors of that book. The most prominent among the authors of the reprinted papers are: J. Larmor, H. Lorentz, A. Einstein, M. Planck, H. Minkowski, W. Pauli, H. Reichenbach, P. Dirac, S. Weinberg and J. Bjorken. Those of German language origin are given in an English language translation. It is a good idea to collect these key papers on the development of special relativity into one single volume.
