The uniqueness of a classical solution of a mixed problem for a hyperbolic equation with general self-adjoint boundary conditions is proved. The existence was proved in an earlier paper of the author [Differ. Uravn. 34, No. 5, 682--694 (1998; Zbl 0990.26191)]. A priori estimates are found which guarantee stability of solution with respect to initial conditions and right-hand side of the equation. Also the existence theorem is extended.
