Saturation mechanism in a model of the Karlsruhe dynamo (English)

The authors investigate the mechanism responsible for saturation of magnetic field generated in the Karlsruhe dynamo experiment. The effect which this magnetic field has on the velocity field is estimated by using the perturbation method in which the fluid inertia is considered to be negligible. Substituting the velocity obtained in this way into the induction equation averaged over a periodicity cell, one yields a nonlinear equation for the averaged magnetic field. This equation describes the saturation behavior of magnetic field in terms of the imposed unperturbed velocity field. The results obtained in the framework of this analytical model are in qualitative agreement with direct numerical simulations.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0973.00055].
