A number of practical examples are studied in this paper. Some methods of intelligent systems are used that are applicable in optimization and control. Tools and approaches are shortly described. Serious problems in research include computational complexity, robustness and efficacy of algorithms. The paper highlights the need of genetic algorithms. The concept of Pareto optimality is shown. The presented approach includes fuzzy logic design. Nice examples are those of control and modelling within an automative air fuel ratio application and optimization of intensity modulated radiation therapy treatment. The authors believe that hybrid solutions involving the intelligent systems described in this paper have a promising future.
