The authors obtain some new results related to Caristi's fixed point theorem and Ekeland's variational principle and generalize the results of \textit{J. S. Jung}, \textit{Y. J. Cho}, \textit{S. M. Kang} and \textit{S.-S. Chang} [Fuzzy Sets Syst. 79, 239-250 (1996; Zbl 0867.54018)] and \textit{J. S. Jung}, \textit{Y. J. Cho} and \textit{J. K. Kim} [ibid. 61, 199-207 (1994; Zbl 0845.54004)].
