Use of a Cagniard method [see \textit{L. Cagniard}, Reflection and refraction of progressive seismic waves (International Series in the Earth Sciences, McGraw-Hill, New York) (1962; Zbl 0116.24001)] is made to obtain a closed-form solution to a two-dimensional initial-boundary value problem of homogeneous isotropic thermoelasticity with relaxation times for a semi-space subject to a concentrated normal load suddenly applied on its thermally insulated boundary. Numerical results for a set of hypothetical material parameters are included.NEWLINENEWLINEThe reviewer notes a number of misprints: for example, (1) on page 934, line 2 from bottom, \(u_3(x, z, p)\) should read \(u_3(x,z,t)\), and \(\exp(-pt)\) should be deleted from RHS; (2) the variable \(t\) given by (6.2) has no dimension of time, as claimed by the authors, since a solution to the problem is sought in a dimensionless setting.
