The main result of this paper is the following: A complete Riemannian manifold with harmonic curvature which admits a non-affine projective transformation has positive constant curvature. This is the global version of a corresponding infinitesimal result by \textit{K. Yamauchi} [Hokkaido Math. J. 16, 115-125 (1987; Zbl 0629.53040)]; another proof of it is included.
