The paper uses Jacobi's well-known formula for the number of representations of a natural number as a sum of 8 squares, \textit{G. A. Lomadze}'s formula [Acta Arith. 68, 245-253 (1994; Zbl 0815.11021)] for the representations by 9 squares and obtains an arithmetical identity. The author calls it ``strange''.
