Introduction to topological graph theory (English)

This is the first introductory book on topological graph theory in Japanese. This book is compactly written and interesting. It consists of five chapters: Euler numbers and graphs on closed surface, Graph minor and embedding (this chapter plays a key role throughout the book), Diagonal flip of triangulation, Graph covering and planar properties, and Ramsey theorem in spatial graphs. These results have been discovered since the 1980s. However, these topics have not been described in available books in Japan.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe style of consideration is by intuitive argumentation rather than mathematical-logical formulation. The book also contains instructive illustrations along with 56 figures and 50 exercises with answers of 12 pages. As a characteristic of the book, the map color theorem has not been discussed intentionally. However, this treatment does not harm the total evaluation, but enlightens the reader on the subject about recent topological graph theory.
